Social Crisis Prevention And

Management Strategies.

Overview

Social crisis can arise in various forms. At the core of social crisis is some disruption of the normal order of society, leading to any number of outcomes. A war, for instance, can unleash a refugee crisis which would necessitate a humanitarian intervention. Severe drought can cause food shortages and massive movement of populations away from drought stricken areas to better land. This can cause conflict between the new arrivals and indigenous populations. Gang violence in developed countries such as the USA and the UK make the streets unsafe and can cause blight when investors abandon unsafe neighborhoods. Climate change induced phenomena, such as elevated sea water levels, have wiped out many coastal dwelling communities
and islands in the Pacific. Damaged land from floods and droughts have reduced overall habitable land for agriculture and animal
husbandry in several parts of Africa. A deathly struggle has emerged in the last several years between farmers and nomadic herders of cattle over grazing rights and farm lands. The primary focus of this training program is the management of social crises arising from all of the above before they degenerate into violent conflict. Crises experts, development professionals, academics and experienced public officials who have worked in crisis prevention roles are the trainers.
