Religious Conflict Prevention Strategies.

Overview
Religious conflict occurs as a consequence of a number of factors, inclusive of intolerance, use of this emotional state by demagogues to gain political power, and overreaction to perceived insults or slights to revered religious figures. The problem is prevalent in sub Saharan Africa where quarrels among diverse populations of Christians, Muslims and animists often erupt in violence. There has been an exacerbation of the problem in the last few years by terrorist groups
taking advantage of the adversarial situation to advance broad goals of territorial conquest to establish a utopian theocracy. There is a glaring lack of capacity in religious crisis prevention in sub Saharan Africa. The destruction wrought by religious violence disrupts and even reverses socioeconomic development. Taming the monster of religious violence
can provide the stability required for foreign investment and sustenance of World Bank and IMF projects to lift standards of living.
This short course and its workshop variant aim to build capacity that can intervene in religious crisis situations to avert destructive conflict.
